HIGH VOLTAGE

The majority of the Society's members are amateur gardeners. There are members in 40 states and 45 foreign countries. There are chapters located throughout Florida, in Texas, Louisiana, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. The Australian Hibiscus Society and the Hibiscus Society of Queensland are affiliated. Chapters hold monthly meetings to discuss hybridizing, pruning, fertilizing, judging and exhibiting. Not all members belong to chapters, but these "members at large" participate in national meetings, conventions and other functions. Members receive "The Seed Pod," the quarterly publication of the AHS. There are a number of books published by the AHS covering all aspects of hibiscus culture -- grafting, hybridizing, etc. -- especially The Hibiscus Handbook, please see the Publications page at this site.

The AHS maintains the Seed Bank, where seeds are solicited from members to be distributed to anyone wishing to grow new varieties from seed. Requests to: the Seed Bank, 2414 Sundown Lane Lantana, FL 33462-2546

Nomenclature (names, descriptions, etc.) is available online here. Also, available in print (within "Combined Show and Judging Rules and Judges Nomenclature") US$6.00 plus US$2.00 for first class mail or foreign orders.

To join the American Hibiscus Society (a non-profit organization) send US$25.00 for a year's membership and get the quarterly "The Seed Pod." VISA and MasterCard are all right. Mail to: AHS, P.O. Box 1580, Venice, FL 34284-1580. Membership application.
